Hey, Jack. Uh. This is Bolin, by the way. [ Okay so, as far as Bolin's concerned, Jack's got his priorities in exactly the right place right now. Helping people. A+. He makes sure to try and keep more positive attitude in his tone than the opposite in light of this.
And normally he'd probably have just popped right in on the network about this, but then he has to consider the monarchs-- pretty much the first time he's really thought about that, as far as chatting with someone on the other end of the courts goes. Small talk is one thing, is all. This is another.
After Korra and Mako's... incident, he guesses it could probably kind of look like aiding and abetting the enemy in a time of war or something. From a strict kingly or queenly perspective. There's a thin line to consider.
Man, what a jerk of a month this has been so far. Nothing on how October started out, but definitely a contender. ]
I wanted to let you know that if you ever need help getting people to a safe place, you can call me. Or even if you just want help. Either way. [ Like, he's not picky. ] I'll do whatever I can.
[If anything, it's almost enough just hearing the familiar voices that brings a comfort, relieved to have an update to know that certain people were alive and well in the midst of everything. But Bolin's message does even more than just that with his words that has Jack smiling on the other end.]
Good guy Bolin. That's you, huh? [Always the nice guy, this takes it to another level.]
Thanks. I mean that. People keep saying a lot of this is pointless. But ... there's nothing pointless about trying to protect people through this. I'm glad to know more people believe that.
[ Jack, please. "Good at making tunnels and lava moats" guy. ]
Hey, of course more people believe that! [ That's not a defensive tone or an offended one. It's the tone of an experienced attempted-morale-booster and optimist. Welcome to the Bolin train. ] If everyone thought it was pointless to help out people who don't wanna be part of a huge, deadly battle, nobody would be saying anything about it at all, because everyone would already know there was no point. Last time I checked, you pretty much said something about protecting people to everyone that has a locket, and you're definitely part of the everyone situation.
[ So his point is basically proving itself scientifically. Definitely not pointless. ]
Don't let it get you down. This is a huge world with a lot of people in it, so there's no way you're alone. I mean, sure, apparently people who think you've got the right idea aren't too great at speaking up. But I bet they're still out there!
[If Jack ever decided to form a cheerleading team for whatever reason, Bolin would be first pick at cheer squad leader for sure. Hope you like pom-poms.]
If they're hiding, no doubt it's because of the party pooper squad complaining about a little positivity. I can't even begin to tell you how many people got angry at me for openly offering help. If I try to be a little more private about it, it won't get to everybody and I'm not about to only offer help to one side. There's plenty on both sides who want no part of this and I need them all to know they're not alone.
[Maybe that's a bit more of what he wanted to convey in that message. That it's okay to walk away from this.]
But you're right. They're out there, probably more than they're willing to admit. But if they actually do something about it, maybe we can do something about this war.
That's why it was great that you went over the lockets about it! With all this heavy stuff coming up, there are probably a lot of people who've been feeling stuck. Knowing there's at least someone out there who has their back is gonna mean a lot. [ People stuck in situations they didn't want to be in, with no way to get themselves out of it? He knows that feel. An outstretched hand can just about mean the world to someone. ]
If you need anywhere to take people, I'm a Champion of Redgate, so I think I can help get them set up there. And if anyone's willing to do repairs or anything, they'd probably be really glad to have them.
Yeah, I've sent a bunch of natives over to Redgate earlier this month. Not exactly my personal favorite haven, but if we've got a Champion over here, then I'll keep the place in mind. [The anti-magic set up is a real bother.]
But really, I appreciate you coming forward, Bolin. We need more people like you.
[ At least it keeps people on pretty even footing. Unless they're Reynard or they're really big into the Shard-using... thing. But that's none of bolin's business.jpeg at this juncture in time. All he knows is, he trusts the place because people were nice to him and he at one point stole dogs from the city. ]
It grows on you after a while. [ Then again, it's not hard for things or people to grow on him. Maybe it's more like he grew on them. ] Anyway, it's really no problem. Just let me know if there's anything you need. I mean, if you need like a bolt of magic lightning or a metalbender or something, I won't actually be able to help you, but if there's anything you need that isn't impossible for me, I'm there.
Oh, really? Well, darn, a metalbending lightning bolter is exactly the thing I was looking for. How unfortunate. Looks like I can't hire you after all, Mr. Bolin.
[He cracks a laugh. Mainly because he still needs to with everything going on.]
You're doing plenty already. Don't worry. I'll seek you out when the time comes.
