[He's definitely confused by the strange man who appears in his locket and for a moment, he just watches with squinted eyes as he waits to figure out what this guy's doing looking for him (Lord Frost, why are there people who call him that, it is so weird). But as he listens, his apathetic stare transforms into widening eyes and a gaping mouth as he learns of the news.]
What ... ? Wait, what are you saying? What do you — Merida's asleep? Like, really asleep?
[Are there no polite people where you come from, Jack?]
Yes. I was teaching her how to use her shard when it happened. While it is normal for someone to be tired after first learning to connect to their shard, never has someone collapsed on me before. Not only collapsed, but would not wake up no matter what I did.
She did say 'mum' right before she completely fell asleep. I am not sure what to make of that...
Yes, she's resting in her room right now. Fortunately, we were at the place where she has been staying when it happened. It wasn't hard for me to carry her there. She is safe. If you could, would you mind letting her friends know what is going on?
Y-yeah, I'll tell them. It's just ... [No, no, no. This wasn't supposed to happen. Not to someone else.]
She'll be asleep for about a week. That's been the routine around here. But ... but it won't be a week for her. The timing is different for everybody, but she's gonna need a lot of support when she wakes up. There's no telling what she's going through on the other side.
Thank you. I appreciate it. If any of you wish to come and sit with her, please let me know. As much as I would like to sit here at her side the whole time, I cannot.
[And he has no idea when Cu Chulainn will be back. The other Lancer is really the one who should be here when she wakes up.]
Seelie and Unseelie alike are welcome here, so none of you will be in danger. She wouldn't stand for it.
Once I get the message out, I'll swing by. Our other friend, Hiccup, he'll probably come too, no doubt about it. [The three of them had stuck together for a long time when it all started after all. They'd stick together even now, especially now.]
I'm fine. I ... when I slept, it was for a really long time. Almost three centuries, actually. I know it won't be that long for her, obviously, but still, it just ... it's not easy. I didn't want anyone else to have to go through that.
You and Hiccup are more than welcome here. It's been a while since I saw Hiccup and Toothless. I hope they are doing well. [Samhain seems like a very long time ago now even though it's only been a few months.]
Thank you for all of your help. If there is ever anything I can do for either of you, please let me know.
[Diarmuid blinks in surprise when Jack says how long he was away.]
Three centuries? I can't imagine how disorienting that must have been for you....
[Would it have been anything like being summoned back into the world about 2000 years after his death had been?]
Not the worst. I know how to keep myself having fun. It's kind of my thing. [Despite the fact that he had to go through it almost entirely alone. At least Merida will be able to be by her family.]
I appreciate it though. Merida's our oldest friend here, so we'll want to be there.
Good! Being able to have fun does make hard times a little easier.
[Not that he knows that much about having fun. Diarmuid thinks things like helping people and teaching are fun. What a weirdo...]
I am glad that she has friends like you two. I worry about her. She is a brave and feisty girl, much like my daughter was and, boy, could Druime get herself into trouble...
Guardian of Fun, hu? That is a good title to have. Maybe you can teach me how to have more fun sometime. Most people who know me will tell you I don't have nearly enough of it.
[Diarmuid laughs and jokingly winks at Jack.]
Well, what can you say? People teach best when they have first hand experience with what they are teaching...
I know I should have more fun, but I am one of those who completely throws himself into his duty. Plus, I always had to be the one to keep people from having too much fun in the past.
[Oh, the joys of leadership...]
My wife will probably thank you. [As long as Diarmuid doesn't end up in too much trouble that is.]

That's not — [Not good.] Where is she now? Did you take her somewhere?

Are...you all right?

Feisty, yeah, that's pretty accurate. Though she's pretty good at scolding people for getting into as much trouble as she does.

[He'd be more than happy to do it. People need to laugh more in the midst of all of this.]
True enough. It's why people come to me first when they need to be taught a little more about trouble.
